Special Task Force (STF) Contributions include
- Peripheral Equipment Interface and Multimedia
Exchange Layer updates
HW provides the necessary abstractions required to allow
simple accessibility for application developers to TETRA
2’s new Enhanced Data Service including advanced Quality
of Service (QoS) features. The results of this work allows
applications to have access to Background, Telemetry and
Real Time data class management together with a multitude
of priority and reliability options. All features are updated
in the TETRA PEI section of the standard and are fully
accessible through the existing AT and TNP1 PEI interfaces.
- Multimedia Data Service
HW provided the first steps towards definition of the Multimedia Exchange (MEX) layer for
TETRA 2 standard. The MEX layer provides, together with SNDCP layer, a quality of service
management for TETRA 2 applications; a feature that does not exist in TETRA 1.
- Simulation of TETRA Release 2 Adaptive Link Control
HW develops propagation, shadowing and mobility models for the use in simulations of adaptive
link control algorithms in TETRA 2 channel.
- Evaluation and feasibility of the Speech Codec STANAG 4591 in a TETRA
channel
Testing and verification of NATO’s STANAG 4591 audio codec in TU50 and HT200 channels.
The study includes qualitative and quantitative assessment of audio quality using a low rate
audio codec. This study directly compares the GSM, TETRA and the STANAG audio codecs. In
addition, a suitable framing strategy was developed to allow real-time transmission of the low
rate codec data packets using the TETRA.
